Snippet: Albert Manent, Critic, Poet, Scholar, Dies at 83

Albert Manent i Segimon (Premià de Dalt, 1930 – Barcelona, 2014) was a literary critic, poet and historian of literature. He held a Law degree as well as one in Catalan Philology, and actively opposed the Franco regime. He wrote writers’ biographies and works on cultural history and was a founder of the Serra d’Or magazine.

Manent also translated from Spanish, Portuguese and English, e.g. Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet into Spanish verse.
