Snippet: Asturias Award for Literature to John Banville

Irish writer John Banville (Wexford, 1945) has been bestowed with the 2014 Prince of Asturias Award for Literature, as made public on June 4 in Oviedo by the Jury responsible for conferring said Award.

John Banville on hearing the news: “It is a great pleasure, and a great honour, to be the recipient of the Prince of Asturias Award for Literature 2014. I know what a wonderful prize it is, culturally and historically, and I am very proud indeed that my name should be added to the long list of great writers who have received it in the past”.

As the current Prince of Asturias will be made King of Spain soon, it is still unclear how the foundation and the award will be called when given in October, probably either “Princess” or “Principate of Asturias”.
