The Associação Portuguesa de Escritores (APE) [Portuguese Writers’ Association] awarded its 2013 “Grande Prémio de Ensaio Eduardo Prado Coelho, APE/Câmara Municipal de de Vila Nova de Famalicão” [Eduardo Prado Coelho Essay Prize] to the philosopher José Gil (Mozambique, 1939) for his book Cansaço, Tédio, Desassossego [Fatigue, Boredom, Restlessness]. The jury: “… for his capacity of deepening and renovation of the study of [Fernando] Pessoa, starting out from Pessoa’s own work, and also for the high level of reflection in genuinely essayistic writing.”
In 2004, José Gil was, according to the Wikipedia, named “one of the 25 Great Thinkers of the contemporary world” by Le Nouvel Observateur.
P.S.: Considering the title of Gil’s prize-winning work, this blogger feels as if he should start reading Pessoa…
