On sale from today, after 13 years of work: the 23rd edition of the Diccionario de la Lengua Española [Dictionary of the Spanish Language], published by the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE; Wikipedia). The work of 22 language academies, it contains 93,111 articles or words, 195,439 meanings, 19,000 meanings of “americanisms” [Lat.-Am. Spanish], 140,000 amendments of 49,000 articles, 5,000 new words –among them “tuit” (tweet) and “tuitear” (to tweet)– and 1,350 have been thrown out. In Spain it is offered in one volume at the price of 99,- EUR. This publication is the highlight of the Academy’s 300th birthday celebrations.
