Snippet: the Iberian book industry in international comparison

According to the International Publishers Association (IPA), in international comparison of the book business at total market value (at consumer or retail prices), Spain occupies the 9th position (2,708 MEUR; a 10% reduction in 2013; less than 10% of the no. 1 ranked US); Portugal does not show in the list of the top-40 (big Spanish publishers also have their Portuguese branches…).

As to “new titles per million inhabitants”, Spain ranks 4th (1,626 titles; 1st UK: 2,875 titles/1m inhabitants), due to a big role of exports in its book trade.
