On 6 January, Epiphany, the Spanish and Catalan “Kings'” (=Christmas gifts) day, the translator, editor and writer José C. Vales (Zamora, 1965) was awarded this year’s Premio Nadal [Christmas in Catalan; Wikipedia] for the novel Cabaret Biarritz. (The Nadal and the Josep Pla prizes are awarded at the same event, organized by the publishing label Destino, part of Grupo Planeta.)
The author’s homepage describes Cabaret Biarritz as follows:
The novel narrates the dramatic events of the summer of 1925 in the spa and vacation town of Biarritz where in the “roaring” 1920s the cream of the European nobility and elegance gathered and where both, glamour and depravity, met in salons and the most infamous clubs…
The novel will be published on 3 February 2015. Vales translated, among other works, Pride and Prejudice and Frankenstein into Spanish.
