The city of Valencia is the 2022 world design capital.
It has long lived somewhat in the shadow of Barcelona, but Valencia has got a lot of charm and qualities of its own. It has more space, doesn’t feel as crowded as Barcelona, and its beaches are a lot bigger.
Rents are probably a little cheaper, too, and Diego Parrado, in his article for “Icon Design”, names a few designers that have made Valencia their home after studying and/or working abroad, among them Inma Bermúdez and Jaime Hayon [winner of the Spanish design prize 2021].
